MapTiler 7.0 has been released. It does contain autosave of the georeferencer points - and restore if you open the same file on the same computer.
See the announcement at: http://blog.klokantech.com/2016/07/maptiler-7-auto-save-and-new.html for all the other details.
(BTW the planned 0.6.5 has become 7.0).

The automatic saving and restoring of the points clicked in the visual georeferencing is going to part of MapTiler Start, Plus and Pro from version 0.6.5 (the next release).
It is only weeks until we release this update.
Please subscribe to our company channels (Blog RSS http://blog.klokantech.com/ or Twitter http://www.twitter.com/klokantech/, etc) to get alerted...
The visual georeferencing has been improved significantly in the coming version of MapTIler. It contains for example an overlay mode - where you can preview the quality of the overlay and also very fastly add additional points (with automatically suggested location based on previously assigned points), new transformations, accuracy analyse, etc. It is still very easy to use.
Additional cool features (such as exports into GeoTiFF, etc) will come probably in 0.6.6.

Any update on this? This was a priority in August 2015. Twice now I have been geo-referencing a large file with in excess on 600 points and Maptiler has crashed wasting hours of work

Glad to hear this is in the pipeline. I'd just like to confirm this functionality - after I've manually assigned georeference points for my image, I will be able to save those points to a separate file, so when i want to use a new image (for instance, after correcting an error on the original), I'll be able to load the saved points and apply them to the new image to ensure it aligns correctly. Is that more or less how it will work? Thanks!

Hi Alexey, this is a planned feature - on the top of our priority list. You can expect this soon - in one of the next releases of MapTiler.
