Export Garmin Custom Maps
Garmin have recently announced that you can now upload geoferenced tiles to their more recent GPS units. These use a format similar to GE KML. It would be good to have an option to export in a format that could be loaded onto Garmin GPS
113 votesCOMPLETED: MapTiler 0.6 supports Garmin!

Update the existing tileset (merging tiles) in MapTiler Pro
It would be nice to have possibility to update existing tileset (MapTiler tiles generated before) with new input raster and merge automatically new tiles into old tile tree – for example when updating subset of existing areas - such as large aerial photo or large base map rendered previously.
53 votesIt is now possible to merge existing MBTiles to produce a single MBTiles file with MapTiler Pro 0.6.4.
There is a graphical user interface for this feature (after you open an MBTiles file in MapTiler) and command line tool called “merge_mbtiles” available for all MapTiler Pro customers.
The tool can be used to create a seamless map from multiple MBTiles, or update existing large dataset by glueing a newly rendered overlay over the existing tileset (such as updating aerial photo of small region in existing map).

Render tiles from ESRI Shapefile or other vector formats by Mapnik/Cascadenik
It would be nice to be able to render tiles from features (vector data like Shape files) directly with a support for Cascading Stylesheets for defining the design in the style of:
http://mapnik-utils.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/serverside/cascadenik/doc/index.html

Tile formats: OGC WMTS & Google & Microsoft QuadTree & NASA World Wind
GDAL2Tiles and MapTiles should support generation of the tiles in non-TMS directory structure...
The first candidate is OGC WMTS format (seems to be compatible with standard Google tile naming convension).
Second candidate are "Microsoft QuadTree" tiles known from MapCruncher for native Virtual Earth overlays (Spherical Mercator and QuadTree).
Third candidate are NASA World Wind tiles - so 512x512 Global Geodetic (-p geodetic) tiles with custom tile structure described at the site: http://issues.worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/confluence/download/attachments/394/world+wind+tile+systemt.gif
I summarized details to different tile naming convention for Spherical Mercator here:
http://www.maptiler.org/google-maps-coordinates-tile-bounds-projection/34 votesThe new MapTIler available at http://www.maptiler.com/ renders by default WMTS / Google XYZ tiles. This issue is not a problem anymore.

OGC GeoPackage export
There is a standardized SQLite container for tiles defined by OGC. This would create an official alternative to MBTiles - even for tiles in custom projection system. It would be great to have support for this format in MapTiler and TileServer.
30 votesMapTiler 8.0 with OGC GeoPackage output format was released.

Desktop: Generate tiles from a remote WMS server
It would be nice to support any WMS server with a known projection (PROJ.4) like EPSG:4326 to be used as a source of rasters for generating tiles for mash-ups with specified area. Technically possible already with: http://www.gdal.org/frmt_wms.html
24 votesHi,
Thanks for your suggestion. We moved all issues to the new system. You can find your idea here: https://support.maptiler.com/i90-generate-tiles-from-a-remote-wms-serverPlease subscribe to your issue in the new system to stay informed about your suggestion progress.

Improvement of the speed on multi-core processors
Optimize MapTiler for generation of tiles on multi-core processors. Note: there is already a solution: http://help.maptiler.org/cluster
18 votesThe speed of MapTIler has been significantly improved in the rewrite to C/C++. Check http://www.maptiler.com/

Visual georeferencing by ground control points selected in Google Maps
Rectification of images by specifying control points in the GUI would be nice (in the style of MapCruncher). Prototype of the GUI: http://oldmapsonline.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/georeference.html . Integration with the embedded web-server for local file preview and also WebKit in wxWidgets is necessary.

Optimization of the size of produced PNG tiles
Embedding NeoQuant algorithm for RGBA from PNGNQ into GDAL library.
15 votesMapTIler from http://www.maptiler.com/ has embedded optimization of PNG tiles, even in the Free version. It produces usually tiles with half of the size of the original MapTIler or GDAL2TIles.

Set and keep default tile format for "Start" version
Add the ability to set the default tile format to any of the options in the "advanced" menu.

Add support for arbitrary high definition tiles
Replace the HiDPI option with numerical scale factor to make it possible to create tiles of arbitrary size. For instance 512px, 1024px or 2048px tiles.
Larger tiles would reduce the number of tiles required to render a map on a high dpi-screen.15 votesMapTiler 7 does support retina with variable scale (like 2 or 3) and it is supported on all profiles, not only Mercator.

Base layers for viewing mbtiles
It could be great to have possibility of turn on base layers (eg. OpenStreetMap etc.) when Maptiler shows mbtiles files.
14 votesImplemented in MapTiler 7 – there is an OpenStreetMap powered basemap in the background if MapTIler has Internet access.
-
Pixel precise warping for zoomed-in levels
Allow pixel precise warping for zoomed-in levels (those bigger then the native resolution of the input raster) – necessary for signal coverage maps for example.
10 votesPixel precise warping of the maps has been properly solved with rewrite of MapTIler from Python to C/C++. Check http://www.maptiler.com/

Make the GUI remember entered values in entries
When clicking on the "Back" button in the GUI, some of the entered values are reset to their defaults. Most notably this is true for the title of the map, and the wanted zoom levels.
Perhaps check to se if user changed the defaults before resetting theese values?
12 votesThere is no such issue anymore in http://www.maptiler.com/

Save processed data so you can come back to it in the event of a powerfailure or crash
In the event of a power failure, system crash or forced restart, any processed data is not written and saved. This requires the user to redo the complete process again which can add to days of work. I had tiles processing for 5 days and had a data near 90% completion, but lost it all when there was a minor power outage in the street.
At least a button that lets you 'Save Configuration' and 'Load Configuration'.
Thanks
Keep up the good work.12 votesHi,

Amazon S3 as a storage for tiles
Support Amazon S3 as a storage for tiles: possible to reuse the code from tilecache.org project
10 votesMapTIler supports Amazon S3 directly – and even contains a very fast uploader of the tiles to S3 and uploaded tiles comply to OGC WMTS standard – so these can be openned in QGIS and ArcGIS, etc. See this video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5gFXvxWIHM

Add Image Quality controls and 16bit support
Add Jpg compression level control.
Add 16bit per channel import/export for elevation sets (an 8 bit gray rgb image is no use)
eg 16bit grayscale tiff import & 16bit grayscale png output.11 votesHi,
